I started researching my family trees about 15 years ago. I found myself deep into Scottish records with my Ramsay line. This was well before the IGI was on line. A lot is now online which is wonderful.

I enjoyed my foray into Scotland as the women kept their maiden names which was just wonderful eg if they were married a second time they used their maiden name.

I hired a lot of films from a local LDS (Latterday Saints) Family History Centre and spent hours searching through census which mostly where not indexed at that time. The hardest part was to find out where in Scotland my Ramsay came from but it was his second name and the name of at least one of his children (both surnames) which eventually pulled it altogether and found him on the census in Clackmannan with his family. It was not all plain sailing from there but more films and checking of the IGI at the LDS was very rewarding. I had one last thing to prove before I wrote my book I believed I was correct but needed some proof so I hired a lady I came into contact with who researched records in Edinburgh and it was in the Kirk (Church) Records that the proof was found and my Ramsay's father's father had been married twice.

I am working on adding some Family Trees of my own to this website.
